Just You! The retreat is specially designed for Maternity Nurses, to recuperate, re-charge and reboot so that when you return to work you will have the energy and enthusiasm for the job you have always loved.

You can fully be yourself in a beautiful relaxing environment for four days and nights with others who truly understand where you are coming from.

As a Maternity Nurse you give yourself totally to the families you work with, physically and emotionally and at times it can be exhausting. You push yourself beyond your limits and long-term this is detrimental to your health. You survive on little sleep.  Your eating habits change constantly. You are on alert 24 hours a day even when you are resting.  You slot into a household like a chameleon blending into the families needs and wants. You have no privacy and cannot fully be you. You return home to rest but once home there is so much to fit in that you feel like returning to work for a rest and the whole cycle begins with no time to fully recharge.

Imagine a life where you make time for yourself. When you have energy and excitement for life again.  Where you learn to do the job you love the way you want to, on your terms. Asserting yourself to put your needs first. A little step at a time.
The realisation of the importance for you to take care of yourself first before you help others will change the way you work. Having the emotional energy to make decisions that benefit you will change the way you live your life.

The retreat 
Is a beautiful 5 star 17 th century country estate with spa, surrounded by acres of gardens, woodland and parkland next to the peaceful  River Tanat. You can take time out to relax, enjoy and purely be you.
You can spend your days however you feel. This beautiful house is your space for the time you are here. Use all the facilities of the spa and gym. Explore all the nooks and crannies of this beautiful beamed house or even just lounge on the comfy sofas.  

Pamper yourself with beauty treatments with the lovely Kirsty. Be still with some Reiki healing and Reflexology with Clare.  Meditate with a group or anywhere on your own. Help yourself to drinks, do whatever you feel. This space is for You.
Why I chose Bryn Tanat Hall
Recently I went to Bryn Tanat Hall on a retreat, from the moment I arrived I felt at home. The house has this amazing energy as if the big stone walls around you are giving you a warm hug. I loved to explore the corridors and open all the doors. I had that childlike excitement that I haven't felt for a while. The first morning after my cup of Tea and breakfast I went over to the old stables, (still in my PJs and dressing gown) to the treatment room where I met the lovely Kirsty.

I had a relaxing treatment and came out smiling, feeling pleased with myself that I had treated myself. I often treat myself this way because I work so hard and I deserve it, but suddenly I had tears. That no reason, eyes leaking moment from nowhere because I thought to myself what a lovely thing to give to myself. I am just giving myself some love, sadly this is the first time in a very long time that I have felt this way.

I then thought to myself, all of my Maternity Nurse friends and colleagues deserve this too.  I went back into the house and said out loud without even thinking it through, “I am going to book this house for all the Maternity Nurses” because we all deserve to give ourselves some love.

That is the moment I decided to arrange The Maternity Nurse Retreat.

As an experienced Maternity Nurse, you would think I would have my work life balance sorted. I have found over the years that I have become busier. My work comes to me via recommendations and I often find it difficult to say no. I have fully booked my diary at times and not allowed myself to fully recharge, I have become exhausted.

I always try to leave a gap between jobs but of course when we are expecting babies they don't always come when we expect or families want you to stay longer and again you give your own time away.  

I recently attended a retreat. I was actually too tired on the day to go but I packed my things into the car and of course went anyway. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself. It was more than just treating myself.  

This house and the space created allows you to truly be yourself, I relaxed properly for the first time in a long time. I left my phone in my room and I forgot about all the things that needed doing or the things I think need doing. It's funny how we can start to stress about the smallest things that need to be done when actually nothing needs to be done. I truly switched off.

I have come home feeling more than fresh, excited to be going to my next job. I have done little jobs that I have put off for months because they felt like chores. I feel literally lighter and excited for life. I know that I won't allow myself to get so tired again and I am putting time for me in my diary. This retreat is for you to make time for you, JUST YOU.

Clare Cogan

Clare will be supporting us with essential oils to help us rest, relax and recharge during the week. Clare will teach a class which will allow you to create a personal blend specific to your needs at that time. Also offering reflexology and aroma reiki treatments which you can book privately with her to enjoy the power of essential oils to relax and heal during your stay.

Fiona Cooke

Support from me as your host and as an experienced Maternity Nurse to listen and hold space for you with any worries you might have about your Maternity Nurse work. I want to make sure everyone is relaxing and getting the space they need. I am hoping for you all to switch off from work, however somethings need to be spoken about, I am here so that we can talk about ways to make your work and personal life balance.If anyone knows how exhausting and at time frustrating this job can be then I know.
